How this was made
New Ground is not built from job ads. It is built from capabilities. The premise is simple: a career is a recombination of things you can do, ways you think, and worlds you understand. Change the combination and you change the career, often without starting over.
Four decks
Your toolkit is read across four MethodKit decks. COMP is what you can do (the verbs of work: write, convince, lead, design). SKILLS is how you think and the future-facing skills you carry (creativity, storytelling, cultural literacy). TOPICS is the worlds you know (communication, design, literature, behavioural science). And PROF, the Professional Development deck, is the ask-yourself layer: the questions worth sitting with before and while you choose. Together they describe you better than any title.
Four distances
Every direction is placed at a distance from where you stand today. Adjacent means your craft repositioned, mostly recombination. Stretch means a genuinely new discipline, learned deliberately, with your existing strengths carrying most of the load. Leap means a bigger bet that points your deepest transferable strengths somewhere surprising. And Moonshot is bigger still: a near-total reinvention where only your deepest human capabilities carry over and you choose to start again, on a horizon of years. Distance is about retooling effort and time, not value or ambition; a Moonshot is not better than an Adjacent move, only further.
What the cards are, and are not
The cards are a lens, not a limit. They show what transfers; they do not show everything you are. The distances are rough, and personal. Most real moves combine two or three directions (a freelance brand-voice consultant who also facilitates and teaches is one person). Read this as a map of the terrain, not a verdict on the route.
Outlook and salary
Each direction carries a demand read for 2026 to 2036 (growing, steady, cooling, or self-made), a sense of how crowded entry is, and an indicative Stockholm salary. These are informed estimates, not a forecast or a promise: salaries are rough gross monthly figures (kronor per month) for mid-to-senior level, they vary widely by employer and sector, and demand calls are judgment, not data. Treat them as a compass bearing, and check the real number for any specific role before you decide.
Honest caveats
Stockholm-specific notes name real companies and schools as starting points, not endorsements or the only options. Effort estimates assume deliberate part-time building alongside work. And the strongest career insight is usually not on any list: it is the direction you feel pulled to read first.
